First Friday Art Walk - September 1st, 5–8 pm

Mistwood Studio Gallery

During September, Mistwood Studio Gallery features a 'Retrospective of Portraiture' by Kathleen Boyle Magnuson.

While studying art in San Francisco, Kathleen began rendering the human face and form. She says, "I find that the emotions and life experiences are revealed particularly around the eyes and mouth, as well as in the energetic elasticity, the rigidity, the soaring or drooping of the figure. The attempt to interpret the human state of mind in a variety of subjects is fascinating, as is the study of form revealed by light and shadow."

In the current exhibit, you will find portraits of young and old; moving from the purely natural to the visionary. Feeling that just one medium does not adequately express many different moods, Kathleen uses a variety. These include pencil, charcoal, pen and ink with wash, watercolor, acrylic and oil.

JEGA Gallery & Sculpture Garden, Inc.

Celebrating its 12th year in Ashland's Historic RR District 5th & A St in an Artist's Triplex across from Historic RR Station bldg. It is a living & Working Center. We feature mostly NW artists, juried theme shows, and sculpture workshops.

Our September exhibit features new work by Jan Schmitz: a recent series of bas relief-collage/graphite which came from Jan’s subconsious. She works strictly from life and her imagination. Freedom to work new ideas and look for challenges remains central to her work. The fun of creating these new experimental pieces came from layering, pushing, and pulling with light and dark, direct cutting and positioning of different textures and thicknesses of materials and playing with visual rhythm.

Gathering Glass Studio

Brothers-in-law and artists Scott Carlson and Keith Gabor are enjoying creative freedom while exploring blown glass, as the co-owners of Gathering Glass Studio in Ashland, Oregon. The scientific properties and wide variety of colors and forms that glass can take on continue to intrigue and enlighten them in a way no other material does.

Come enjoy the gallery showcasing their art and watch them from the hot shop floor as they demonstrate decades of glassblowing experience.

Currently, in addition to First Fridays, they blow glass five days a week in Ashland’s Historic Railroad District. Witness their craft as they fulfill different galleries requests, prepare for art festivals across the country, create custom orders and teach classes. www.gatheringglass.com
