David Bjurstrom Studio & Gallery
Celebrating
its 3rd birthday in March, David Bjurstrom Studio & Gallery
will feature some of the owner/artist's own photography as well
as new graphite pencil drawings for which he is well known. Chocolate
delights from Bunny's Baking! will be served.
"Ashland: Late Night" is a collection of digitally
altered photographs as canvas giclee prints. They depict Ashland
after the people have mostly gone to sleep and a stillness takes
over. "One of my very earliest recollections of a particular
piece of art I saw as a child is Edward Hopper's 'Nighthawks',
a nighttime view from the outside of a diner in a city,"
said Bjurstrom. "It spoke to me then and still does today.
The starkness of the scene and the handling of light was magnificent.
It is that stark feeling Hopper achieved in his work that has
inspired me in these images."
David Bjurstrom's newest graphite pencil drawings will also be
on display. Lauded for their fine detail and emotional strength,
his work is receiving increasing national attention. In May, 2006,
he will be taking part at one of the Western Art's most prestigious
and exclusive exhibitions, the Peppertree Ranch Art Show in Santa
Ynez, California.
