Houston's Custom Framing & Fine Art and The Living Gallery (below)

First Friday Art Walk – April 1st, 5–8 pm,

Houston's Custom Framing & Fine Art, in conjunction with the Ashland Independent Film Festival, are proud to sponsor an exhibit of the photographs by the children featured in the Academy Award winning film, "Born Into Brothels". In this film, set in Calcutta's red light district, appear a group of unforgettable children. Feisty, resilient and wickedly funny - they are the children of prostitutes. Trying to evade a doomed future, they embark on a transformational journey with New York based photographer Zana Briski, who teaches them photography. This humorous and heartfelt story portrays the power of art and the courage of those willing to change their own lives.

The Living Gallery

Two Artists featured at The Living Gallery
The Living Gallery continues the artwork of Candace Coleman through April 15. Originally a weaver, Coleman moved into this current collage work - vibrant, colorful, and "painterly". Her art reflects observations on life - including the human need for peace and quiet; and the relationship between chaos and order. April 20 through May, we are featuring the pastels and oils of Joseph Lesser. Realist paintings, often with soft edges, Lesser's work is exhibited in various galleries, and his "Pear Trio" is in the art collection at Bear Creek Corp. "I don't try to impose any particular artistic systems as I paint, nor am I trying to depict exactly what is before me. … I paint in a kind of conversation with the world, letting nature speak to me…."
