Bobbie Jansen and
Jim Robinson
Bobbie Jansen is an extraordinary painter. Her
studio is the upper level of
a barn. It's a large space with glass at both ends allowing light to flood
into the room in the morning and afternoon. Scattered around the room
are
objects such as tables, chairs, cages, candlesticks, vessels and other
props
used for stillife setups. For several years Bobbie has been prolific using
these objects as the basis for her compositions and they're always fresh,
new and full of emotion.
Bobbie was featured in the 25th edition of "New American Paintings"
published in 2000. Her painting "Last Whisper of the Day" is
included in
"True Colors: Meditations on the American Spirit," a major exhibition
in
response to 9/11 shown in Washington D.C., New York, Atlanta and currently
in Istanbul. It is scheduled to continue on to Cairo, Casablanca and Berlin.
Jim Robinson, who has been a full time professional
for 32 years, is the
potter's potter. His innovative approach to manipulating and finishing
clay
puts him in a league of his own and other artists from around the country
rely on his research, knowledge and workshops. For the current exhibit,
Jim
has created coil built vessels that are connected in pairs or triads.
The "American Shino Show " held at Babcock Gallery in New York
in the fall
of 2001, resulted in a publication called "American Shino" and
included
Robinson's work.
"Art Beat," a monthly series produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting
featured
Jim in his studio in October of 2002. Most recently, Jim addressed
N.C.E.C.A. - the National Conference on Education in the Ceramic Arts
in
March 2003 held in San Diego.
